No matter what anyone says a truck with 300k miles on it with a rusted out bed and trashed interior is not worth 10k just because its a diesel.... You cant buy a reasonably priced used diesel truck around here anymore since the bros took over.

Oh yea and 7.3s are awesome, have worked on many of them, driven many and would buy one if given the chance.

Yup, they are super expensive most of the time. I wouldn’t mind something like this though, but for a little less.

isn’t the 6.0 supposed to be not nearly as good as the 7.3?

Pre-2001 trucks had forged pistons, instead of compacted graphite(or something of he lesser strength).

It sounds amazing straight piped.

I do believe like all 4 speed auto’s of the generation, they were a weaker point, but they are cheaper to beef up than modern ones.

They aren’t street racers, but the early (99-00) ones can be beefed up to over 400hp without bottom end mods.

Along with proper maintenance, they will last just as long as an old 12V Cummins, and I’m a Cummins fanboy.

O, just saw that. Looks like I forgot how to read.

My buddy bought an early-00s F350 crew cab long bed with the 7.3, a manual, and 2xx,000 miles for $1k from his grandpa. It is the only time I’ve seen one purchased for anywhere near a decent price...

Oh yeah, and the early ‘99 had a smaller turbo than the rest of ‘99 to ’03. It was nearly as loud as ‘03 6.0 turbos.

Thanks for all the info!

I looked into some 12v Cummins trucks, not too many nice-ish ones for cheap it seems.

It took me a second go-over. The extended cab short box goodness is distracting.

Run away!!!!!! 6.0... I don’t care what anyone says about how strong they can be if you do such and such to them. They are trash, we had one in the family and it was a wonderful motor when something wasn’t wrong with it but it spent about 25% of its life in the pole barn being fixed or in the shop being fixed. The 6.7 that came after that is on the same level as the 7.3 though.

I think the 7.3 is the one to look for though, from what I’ve gathered. But I’m definitely not an authority on the matter

That’s true. I really need something powerful that I can beat the shit out of without worrying what’s going to explode next. :P

The 6.0 is a hot mess. It fails all the time. I’d avoid them if at all possible.

Cant go wrong with an extended or crew cab with the long bed. Trust me its really really nice having that extra 15 inches makes the difference

Gross. If I’m ever in the market for a diesel truck, I’ll stick to 7.3s and Cummins

There’s something wrong here. it is in fact diesel powered, but it definitely isn’t made by V.A.G., nor is it a luxobarge.

jkm? Are you okay, man?

Well, I’m moving to the middle of nowhere next year and have the need/desire for a giant diesel truck.

I’ll have the Jetta on the side and maybe a 911 down the road though...

Friend/coworker has one he got recently, like 230k on it, he’s had to do a ton of work/maintenance catch-up but he insists it will be reliable soon.

7.tree- It’s going to be painfully slow and last forever.

6.0h- Delete the egr or run the BPD setup, headstuds, tune and it’s a 400+whp setup that is reliable.

6.4- Have deep pockets. NEEDS emissions delete because the DPF kills #7&8 pistons.

6.7- Seems to be lasting but pricey.

Be ready for expensive maintenance either way. Beds can be easily replaced for rust since 99-16 are all pretty much the same.
